Charity and Mike's Wedding A 40's Glam Kansas City WEdding photographed by kansas city's best photographers photos edge.
Tears flowed down my face as I watched Charity's dad give her away, and I quietly cried with her sister, mom, and Charity as my camera clicked while Mike said his vows and Charity confessed her love. Charity is my friend, a good friend. One of those that holds me accountable for ALL of my actions. To see her happy, to see her in as much love as she was in, took my breath away.

40s Glam Wedding: Charity and Michael (1st post-getting ready)
Charity is a good friend of mine, in fact I consider Charity and her sister Tony my best friends. This didnt come from them hiring me for their wedding, this is a friendship that has evolved over the last 3 years. I was so excited when Charity told me she wanted me to photograph her wedding. Not only is it a huge compliment because this family loves photographs, but this was the first wedding where I got to photograph one of my friends. Calling Charity beautiful is an understatement, so when she said that she wanted to go 40s Glamour with her wedding I was pumped. The vintage style fits Charitys personality.
I was nervous sitting in the living room with Charitys Grandma waiting for the girls to be ready for me. Everyone wanted their make-up and hair done, which is great because then everyone looks amazing in all of the photos. I walked up the stairs, knocked on the door, and saw Charity smiling at me with her bright vibrant smile asking me, Do you like it?. I along with everyone else in the room started to cry. She was astounding. Absolutely beautiful. They adjusted the dress, tightened the veil and we took some wonderful shots of all the girls just hanging out on the sofa in her parents bedroom. Here are some of my favorite photographs of Charity getting ready. Tomorrow I will post Charity and Michaels Portraits. Enjoy! Charity and Mikes Kansas City Wedding Photography.
I saw this shot and had to take it. Off to the left is a family portrait that I had taken almost 3 years ago when the thought of our own studio was just starting to emerge. Someday I will share the story of their family photo and what it meant to us and our business...but that is another story. I couldn't help but take this photo with Charity in the mirror and her dad in the photo right next to her.Moms are wonderful... Charity's mom is a truly amazing woman. She is everything a mother should be and more. Something to know about Charity's parents is that they are our Pastors. I love, love. I love those moments that don't just include the bride and groom but the family that helped raise them and the friends that surround them. Charity looks up to her mom, I know this because she and Tony told the whole church on mothers day. I think this photo is a great reflection of their love. There is nothing like good friends hanging out and really celebrating the day! My advice to all brides: take your time, it is your day, remember it!
Sisters make everything better. I cropped in to get Tony and Charity enjoying the laughter so that they would have something photojournalistic of the two of them.
(2nd Post Portraits) 40s Glam Wedding: Charity and Michael
Well, Im back. A little later than I wanted but it is here. I decided to do some extra edits on these pictures. As I was working I kept seeing really cool stuff that I could do. Someday there will need to be a post of before and after edits. But for now, here are all of the amazing Kansas City Wedding portraits of Charity and Michael.
Something that is becoming more and more popular with brides and grooms is to not see each other before the wedding but still try and sneak in those before the wedding portraits. It is tricky but it makes for some really great photos. Charitys wedding was really late in the evening and with the wedding being in the fall the sun goes down way too early for any outdoor photographs of the couple, but they wanted pictures anyway. Charity came up with this really great idea to blind fold Mike and then have Marco and I place the two of them so that Mike couldnt see her. She didnt care if she saw him, but she really didnt want to ruin that moment she spent her childhood dreaming of; her loving father walking her down the isle towards the man that she loves. It meant something to Charity and so it meant a lot to me.
Being a Wedding photographer here in Kansas City I have found that Marco and I are one of the only photographers that truly enjoys documenting that moment when the bride walks down the isle and the groom sees her for the first time. The tension in the room mounts as everyone turns to look at the bride who is looking at the groom. When the couple sees each other before the wedding most of this is lost. The groom looks at the bride, while the bride is looking at the guests smiling and usually waving, the groom usually doesnt know where to look because the bride isnt looking at him and it just isnt all that romantic.
We took the guys photos separate from the girls and at different times. When it was time for Mike and Charity to have their portraits together and for the bridal party shot, the groomsmen blind folded Mike and lead him to the perfect spot. Charity sat behind him and then Marco and I positioned everyone around them. It was great and surprisingly, a lot of fun!
Here are some of my favorite portraits of Charity and Mikes 40s Glam Wedding. We were in Olathe Kansas on the Midamerica Nazarene University campus for these portraits. Charitys dad came towards the end of the portrait session to see her for the first time. We all cried. It was beautiful! Enjoy!
We made it to the portraits! I love it when people are happy to see us!
Charity's dad came and we got to photograph his first moments with Charity in her wedding dress.
Mike came back blindfolded. I shot his boutonniere, what a wonderful detail. There are other details from their wedding coming soon. Like the bouquet and shoes...We all know how I love shoes!
When everyone was getting into place for the group shot I noticed Mike sitting there. He looked so good I couldn't resist taking the photograph.I hope that internet world has a great weekend. I am off to a birthday party. See you all on Monday for the Commissioning, Ceremony, and Details of Charity and Mikes wedding. Mike gets a Sword!!!!
Charity and Mike 40s Glam
This is the most memorable ceremony of the year; Mike got knighted as a Mighty Man. There are so many things that go into becoming a Mighty Man and wellI am a woman, so I am not going to go into details about it because I dont think that I can give it justice. But what I can tell you is that when Mike asked Charitys dad for her hand in marriage Charitys dad had a condition. Mike had to complete all of the Mighty Men books which consist of about 9 books, 9 tests, around 13 assignments in each book, and a final. All of this had to be done before their wedding. Mike had about 3 months to complete something others, including Charitys father did, in 2 years. Mike got commissioned right before Charity walked down the isle. It was amazing hearing Pastor David, Charitys dad release blessing over Mike and honor him by giving away his daughter to Mikes hand. I have been to wedding after wedding and never have I fully understood what it really meant to give away the bride. I mean I understand what the words are, and I get the concept, but to actually see the emotion and responsibility given from the father of the bride to the groom has never happened. Charitys dad knows what it means to be that wonderful covering and to have to let go of his daughter who he loves most in the world to someone else. It seems that parents let go of their Children when they move out and so giving them away in marriage isnt that big of a deal, it is just something they do. This was beautifully different. Enjoy! Here are a few of Charity and Mikes details. I had to add two details of the rings. One this hasnt been color popped. That is the color of her flowers. Arent they beautiful? And SecondI LOVE LOVE LOVE Chairtys ring. This is Mike's Mighty Man Sword.
Charity and Mike said the traditional vows from the bible and then also read their own. When Charity read her vows it brought tears to everyones eyes. Pastor Tracy, Charity's mom and the worship team all sang durning the lighting of the candle. They were then prayed over.
